Advertising throughout the interweb and on social media is pretty much standard nowadays and you might have noticed averts are following you everywhere! And yes, that includes this blog too. (Sorry!)
However, I like to think, I’m pretty strict about it all and I definitely didn’t start this blog simply to make money and advertise things you don’t need. As a rule, I don’t ever allow any promotional material that doesn’t add value to my readers.
I aim to keep my blog authentic to my original goal: inspiring others through DIY and budget-friendly ideas.
That said, this blog DOES cost money to run and it DOES take a considerable amount of my time to keep going. So if I can earn something back from it, of course, I would like to.
To help you understand how I earn money from this blog and how I work with brands, I’ve put together a full disclosure below.
How Does Advertising Work on This Blog?
ADs Which Appear on This Blog
I’m currently working with an AD management company, which places ADs across my blog. These usually show up in the sidebar, at the bottom of the page, and in between paragraphs within blog content.
This allows me to generate money through being shown.
Affiliate Links
Across this blog, you’ll find links to different materials and products I’ve used in tutorials, or occasionally some homewares I’ve bought.
Some of these links are affiliate links. This simply means when you click these links and go on to buy a product from that website on my recommendation, I’ll receive a small commission from you doing so.
This in no way affects the price you pay for the product, it’s simply a thank-you from the brand or website for recommending their product. It’s important to say here, I only EVER recommend products and brands which I have bought, used or owned myself.
This blog is currently part of the eBay partner network and the Amazon Associates Programme, allowing me to use affiliate links to both websites.
Gifted / PR Products
I very rarely accept gifted products, but this can involve anything from masking tape and wall plugs to homewares and DIY tools.
Whenever I receive any PR or Gifted product, I will always disclose this information, no matter how inexpensive that item may be.
I’m always 100% honest with any product I’ve received and if I don’t like the item (which does happen), I have no obligation to use or share it. If I do share an item, you can trust I genuinely like it and I’m sharing it because I think you will like it too!
Sponsored Posts and Paid Partnerships
Occasionally, I also work with brands to create specific content for the blog or Instagram, in the form of a sponsorship where I am being paid.
This may be a DIY project, a How-to guide or sometimes a review that I think will be relevant and useful to you. As these posts are sponsored by a brand, the content created will almost certainly involve their products/service within it.
I have received payment for this type of post, not only because it’s a guaranteed form of advertising for the brand, but it’s also creating specific content for a brand, which is work for me.
Where I’ve been paid to work with a brand, this will always be disclosed at the START of the post.
How Making Money Helps This Blog
Making money from this blog helps to pays for its running costs, including the domain fees, hosting fees and several other blog-based subscription fees. Not to mention, other necessary things like camera equipment and storage space etc.
I started this blog as a hobby, but the more it has grown, the more time it requires. Even with everything mentioned above, this blog doesn’t earn anywhere near even a fraction of a full-time wage. Hence why I work too!
I like to think I am incredibly selective about the brands I choose to work with and the products I will accept and I hope you can trust that anything I do promote, is genuine and honest.
