Today is Monday. Monday is when people go back to work after a fabulous weekend off… Monday is the day my solicitor-chasing job begins again. This makes me stressed and angry and frustrated and I’m still no closer to answers on WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING WITH THIS SALE. Eurgh. To take my mind off things, I decided to rescue the back door from its shameful self.
Every spring the time comes to repair the back door from the destruction of the animal. I know I know, I really shouldn’t let this happen.. Prevention is better than cure. But Todd’s an old dog now and scratching at the door is how he tells us he wants to come back in. I actually tend to leave the door open most of the time so this doesn’t happen. But sometimes when it’s rainy or cold, I just want to keep the house warm and dry. So this happens.
It’s actually not too bad considering, but still not ideal for keeping the door from warping. On the other hand, this door is actually really poor quality anyway. Check this out… and this wasn’t even damaged by the dogs.
It would appear that somehow the door is warping through the joint where the woods are attached. Now, I don’t know how because we treated the door before we hung it, but the problem started quite soon after we first bought it. I don’t know if it’s poorly made.. It was the cheapest door we could find. Maybe that’s where we went wrong. It’s also a softwood. Perhaps hardwood would have been more enduring? Either way, we also have to deal with this every year. If we could have afforded a better door at the time, believe me we would have. But this is the reality and this is what we’re stuck with.
Voilà – Like new right? I also touched up the dirty worn doorstep. Although this actually added to my stresses because the dogs kept trying to step on it mid-painting…
So here’s my fixed-up, newly painted back door. Next house: Don’t buy this door.
