Asbestos In the Shed

July 31, 2014 - No Comments - 2 min read

Since beginning our jungle clean-up, I knew from the beginning I wanted this shed taken down.

There’s nothing wrong with it, and yes it does provide useful storage for all those tools… But we have an extensive basement for all that storage. And this is just consuming space in the garden. PLUS, you see that window.. well, I want to have french doors there eventually. But more on that when we get there!

So I started the renovation in the middle of the garden, worked my way towards the back and then came back to do the front. This part involves saying goodbye to that shed. Before I picked up my sledgehammer, I looked at it strategically to see if I could remove it in one easy piece to list on-line as a “free to good home” sorta thing. Free shed, free to get taken away, saves me a journey.. And then it occurred to me, maybe this white lining is asbestos? I hadn’t really looked at it in detail, and from the outside who would suspect it? My conclusions led me to the answer, yes, yes it is.

I wasn’t overjoyed to say the least. Asbestos isn’t the cheapest stuff to have removed, and it’s a deffo no no to DIY. Urgh. So then I began questioning the plan.. maybe we should just keep the shed? But alas, no! I’m sticking to the plan, and this shed will be demolished. Hopefully sooner rather than later. My autumn target for grass was going so well…. Darn you shoddy shed!
