Plans for Garden Seating

April 24, 2015 - No Comments - 2 min read
I recently posted a picture on Instagram of an enormous stack of pallets. We found a guy close to where we live who was selling these on eBay at the magnificent bargain price of £1 a pallet. I know you can often find pallets for free; but actually this is easier said than done. There’s such a growing trend of making creative stuff out of pallets, which means people and companies who once threw their pallets onto a bonfire heap labelling them junk, are now trying to get a bit of cash out of them instead. And who can blame them? Plus, if you want a large quantity of pallets, it’s also hard to find LOTS for free. So, for this reason we chose to buy some. These pallets are half-sized pallets (we call them sugar pallets at work) which meant they were perfect for transporting lots at once in my tiny car. We actually managed to fit 14 into the car in one trip.  I think that’s pretty impressive for a tiny old style corsa! And at £1 a pallet, that’s £14 of wood. Not too outrageous, in my opinion.
What are my plans for these many many pallets? Pallet seating! In my Garden Plan post last year, I  thought about the idea of having little log stools around a fire pit towards the back of the garden. After a bit more thought and planning, I’m thinking of creating an L-shape pallet sofa instead. I think an outdoor sofa will not only seat more people, but will also be a bit more cosy, and actually it will look a lot more stylish too! My inspiration? All of this:

I’ve seen lots and lots and lots of inspiration on Pinterest and I think this would be perfect for the back of the garden. I’ve seen lots of pallet-seating designs where the pallets are literally stacked in a way to form a sofa.. We’re actually going to be dismantling the pallets and pretty much building it from scratch, so hopefully when it’s finished it won’t actually look too much like it’s been made from a pallet. That’s the plan, at least.

Here’s some of my very oh-so-artistic sketch of the design…

Which will be built in this location…

And of course I intend on COVERING the pallet sofa with these cushions, which I may or may not have already made some purchases. Just waiting for some super sunshine and spare days to get started on the work!
